Called to Serve

Sister Lauren Jean Johnson has been called to serve in the Florida Jacksonville mission!

Just 21 years ago I held a beautiful baby girl in my arms wondering what her future would bring.
Now she is a beautiful young woman who has made amazing choices to get where she is.
Way to go Lauren!
We love you!

Fauna and Flora

This afternoon the High Priests had a social in our backyard. In the middle of all the fun, we saw this! We cannot decide if one of the teenage boys put it there. Or, if it was trying to get at the baby birds and the mama bird pecked it to death. Or, if it had a suicide wish. You choose.

Ray and I traveled to San Pete County to check on our property. We saw lots of deer and...

A squirrel in the top of a tree.

Fallen trees....

Flowers...
New growth...
and a happy couple in the calmest place on earth, ooo and it smelled so good this afternoon.

A shot of our fire pit.

and the tops of the trees.
I am looking forward to the camping life...no phones... no electronics...
Just peace and quiet.

Before the race....

and after.

Saturday May 9 Katie, Megan, Lauren and I joined 18,996 other people for the Race for the Cure in Salt Lake. We walked 3.1 miles. This was my first time to do something for cancer research. Mom has supported the Susan G. Komen foundation for the last fifteen years. So, we walked for her. It was very fun. My daughters are the very best! I enjoy spending time with them.
Thanks for the memories!

Having Lauren home this week has been fun for me. Let me re-cap. Monday I arrived home to find her cooking up Costa Vida salads complete with cilantro rice and fat free cilantro lime vinaigrette - better than the real thing! Wednesday she went produce shopping and boy howdy did she pick out good produce. Thursday morning she rode with me to Salt Lake and then waited while I was in a two hour meeting all so we could drive in the HOV lane. Then she humored me by accompanying me to Sweet Tomatoes for lunch.

Lauren has been trying to get all of our lawns mowed all week with no cooperation from our lawn mower. Ray even brought another one home, but no luck. Thursday evening Lauren finally got them all mowed. She mowed in patterns and they all look very nice. Thank you, Lauren! While mowing, Ray got out the weed eater and worked on our garden. All the weeds are down. He even set up the walls of water so we are getting ready to garden. Thank you, Ray!

I am now looking forward to a fun time with all three girls this weekend. Katie is playing ball tonight. We are hoping she has as good a game tonight as last week. Good luck, Katie! Then we are spending the night with Megan. In the morning we are walking for the cure. Megan is finishing up those arrangements for me today. Thanks, Megs!

Wish us luck!

What could be better than family?

Family Love

Lauren arrived home late Thursday afternoon with a burb full of a year's life at college. Lucky for her, Katie got home from work soon after and helped her unload all of her stuff. We had a nice dinner all together for the first time during a week-day evening in a long time as none of us had anywhere to go. In the middle of it all, Megan called and so she was a part of our good time. As we were eating spaghetti, she was happy that she was just on the phone and not eating with us!

Friday afternoon Lauren and I traveled to Blanding where I had the opportunity to speak with a group of parents. We enjoyed our trip down, stopping every so often and having a general good time. I even got some fat free mint yogurt which was yumlicious!

We got there in time to have a nice visit with Shari and took her with us to my speaking opportunity. After, we went back to Shari's and at nine at night she whipped up a batch of fry bread and homemade chili. No can for the Mexican's ( I could not help that!). No one and I mean no one can make fry bread like Shari. She has even won competitions with native people. She really is the very best. Shari shared some helpful hints with Lauren who is pretty good at making fry bread her own self. It was really yum delicious and I even ate it!

Shari really is her mother's daughter as she has every good quality and talent her mom has plus more. Oh, I forgot to tell you about the beautiful quilts and afghans Shari has made. Talk about talent! And, she is always kind and helpful to anyone in need. We stayed up very late talking and having a good time. Just like old times.

Saturday morning Lauren and I got up early to go with Shari and Ambrose to an art show. Be fore we left, warm fry bread slathered with butter, peanut butter and honey were enjoyed. Talk about yummy. Anyway, we saw some beautiful silver and grandma dolls and paintings and more. We enjoyed more good visiting and even got to see our cousin Joyce for a few minutes before she was off to hear Thurl Bailey.

Lauren and I climbed back in the car after lunch and started for home. Did I tell you that Lauren drove me all the way down and most of the way back? Talk about luxury. It was very nice. We got home in time for Lauren to make fry bread and home made chili just like Aunt Shari made for us. The chili tasted just like Grandma Gene's chili, amazing!

I started this blog to tell you how thankful I am for family. My girls are lovely to me and such a joy for me. My sister, Shari, is one in a million. I am so thankful that we got to have a visit. Some of the best time of my life was spent living next door to her. She became such a good friend and sister to me and oh so good to our children. So, being able to spend time with her was so nice. I need to make more time to spend with family. It was rejuvenating for me. Thank you, Shari and Lauren! Let's do this again!
